Biography

Dean Bass received his bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1981. His undergraduate research looked at analyzing PAH compounds in coal using HPLC. He received his M.S. (1985) and Ph.D. (1988) at the University of Texas at Austin studying trace metal analysis using thermal desorption mass spectrometry. He was an applications scientist for Hitachi Instruments in Danbury, CT where he worked on trace metal analysis applications and contributed to the design of trace metal analysis instruments. He currently works for Argonne National Laboratories where he specialized in trace metal environmental and nuclear analysis, working on projects for DOE, EPA, Army, Navy, Centers for Disease Control, and Homeland Security. He is the Assistant Laboratory Director for Doctor's Data Inc., specializing in trace metal analysis in clinical samples. He periodically teaches graduate level chemistry courses for Illinois Institute of Technology. He has 26 publications and 60 presentations.
