Our research group emphasizes materials synthesis and crystal growth, advanced characterizations and studies of materials properties, all aimed at a fundamental understanding of materials that have potential for either deeper fundamental understanding of condensed matter physics or for functional materials applications. All projects in Emerging Materials are connected to multiple MSD projects, notably Neutron and X-ray Scattering, Superconductivty and Magnetism, and Magnetic Thin Films.

Emerging Materials Group Members
August 2013: A new floating zone furnace has been installed in the Emerging Materials Group laboratories. The furnace is capable of growing crystals in pressures up to 150 bar, thereby enabling the discovery and growth of new functional oxide and intermetallic phases.
