User Meetings and Workshops
The user community in the EMC has traditionally been a highly interactive group. As such, informal discussions in the labs and hallways have always been a valued forum of interaction. We also hold formal and informal user meetings and workshops to ensure good communication and to provide a forum for users to present their research to their peers.
The EMC has held an annual User Meeting during the first week of May in collaboration with the other major facilities at Argonne since 2006. This meeting is typically attended by about 500 scientists interested in Argonne’s major user facilities (the Electron Microscopy Center, the Advanced Photon Source, and the Center for Nanoscale Materials). The EMC organizes and participates in one or more topical sessions held at the meeting. Users may also submit posters to the meeting.
The EMC organizes an annual User Workshop to provide an informal setting for open discussions of potential new directions, instrumentation needs, and issues for the EMC. It is also an opportunity for EMC users to discuss their work with fellow workshop participants.
