Ion Beam Target Area

Pete Baldo checks radiation levels at one of the beam lines. Levels are normally well below 1 mrem/hr. The beam line Pete is checking comes from the 600keV ion implanter.

Other beam lines can be seen behind Pete coming through a slit in the concrete wall enclosing the 2MV tandem accelerator. An electomagnet inside the enclosure deflects the beam into one of the many beam lines.

At the right of the picture is an electomagnet that selects the specific ion mass and energy to be sent to either electron microscope.
