My research interests are on nanostructured magnetic materials and spintronic devices. My recent work in the area of sputtered permanent magnet thin films has focused on controlling microstructure and magnetic anisotropy through epitaxy, and on synthesizing model structures to systematically examine the magnetization reversal and energy product enhancement in exchange-spring magnets. Other areas of my current research include exchange anisotropy in magnetic superlattices, magnetic coupling and magnetotransport in magnetic heterostructures, and granular magnetic nanocomposites.

I received my B.S. degree from Zhejiang University, China in 1989, and my Ph. D. in Physics from The Johns Hopkins University in 1996. I am a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

I have been with Argonne National Laboratory since July 1996.
